Duffy - Rain on your parade

this is a medium shot, i like this shot, and in fact most of the shots in the music video. as they only show the silhouette of the artist. this means that the lighting plays a very important part throughout the music video. It really brings out the frame around her body and gives a really interesting variation compared to other music videos.
I like the use of a spotlight in this long shot. For a spotlight it doesn't actually reveal much of the character in the spotlight but it's the only form of lighting in the shot, so it stands out a lot more. It creates an outline of the body of the artist, this is a good technique to use when focusing on the body and movements of the artist.
What i find interesting about this shot is how all the silhouettes repeat each others actions almost perfectly. It is three different artists however they are so in sync with each other, that the shot really looks professional. I've been thinking about how i could include a similar shot in my music video and as i wouldn't have the same resources as this music video had, i thought i could use a white screen form school and the lighting in the drama studio. Hopefully i can include this somewhere in my video, yet i will have to research into it a bit more.
this is an extreme close-up. This close-up is exaggerated by the fact that the background is black, this means the viewer is more draw to the face of the artist. The main focus of this shot is on the artists mouth, however, it's a great shot to see all the facial expressions of the artist and to catch any emotions.
I really love the lighting in this long shot. It's like a spotlight, yet you can't see the light streaming down. Her black outfit disappears in the darkness of the set and the director has also planned the lighting so that there is a distinctive shadow of the artist that fits into the circle of light. I like how there's so much going on with the lighting in the shot and it really makes a great effect in the music video.
the lighting in this shot is very similar to the lighting in the shot above ^ however, they have brought in a main light. this shot was drawn to me as i loved the dancing that was all in sync and how you can only see the silhouettes of the dancers. The minimal detail to the dancers keeps the focus on the main artist 'Duffy' however, it also helps show off the dance moves and how perfectly scripted they are.
I like how in this shot the focus is mainly on the feet of all the people in the shot. The black background makes everyones body (apart from Duffy's) fade away. I believe this is done to focus on the actions/dancing of the feet. Also you get to see all the shadows of the dancers on the floor therefore, the viewers are still seeing the actions of the body's, yet on the floor, this kind of brings a nice variety and a unique effect to the shot.
